Business Grade Internet Connectivity is traditionally provided to a business location by an expensive T1 line and its associated equipment. While speed is important, little downtime and immediate repairs are just as important to keep a business running. High price is due to 24/7 monitoring of performance and guaranteed fast repair time. Broadband is a much less expensive way of delivering similar Internet Connectivity. Providers originally targeted the consumer-class residential market with Cable and DSL. Performance on this type of connection varies depending on how many people are using the connection at the same time. Consumer-class service may also restrict the type and amount of data that can be transmitted. Generally, outgoing speed is restricted to control business use from home. Downtime can be a problem. IP's are not static. Business Grade Broadband is being offered via Cable and DSL to more locations but it has restrictions and it is not likely to ever have the same Quality of Service (QOS) as dedicated T1.
